Spotify Adds Editor-Led Video to 'New Music Friday', Turning Playlist Discovery Into a Guided Experience
Closer to the music and the experts who curate it
Spotify is adding a new editorial layer to its flagship New Music Friday playlist, introducing short-form videos from its in-house curators directly within the listening experience for U.S. users.
The feature places editor commentary alongside weekly track selections, offering insight into standout releases, emerging artists, and the stories shaping each drop.
The update builds on The Drop Weekly, Spotify’s editor-led video series launched in 2025, which the company says has driven significantly higher engagement. By folding that format into one of its most influential playlists, Spotify is aiming to blend large-scale distribution with a more personal, voice-driven approach to music discovery.
The move reflects a broader shift toward humanizing streaming recommendations, positioning Spotify’s editorial team as visible tastemakers within the platform rather than behind-the-scenes curators.
