Hello and thanks for reading the latest Spotify Newsletter.
The Kate Bush takeover of music and media continues unabated - and I couldn’t be happier. I’m by no means a hardcore Kate Bush fan, but “Running Up That Hill” has always been a favorite (from the get-go), along with a handful of other wonderful tunes from her prolific career.
The classic song was released in 1985, right in the sweet spot of my youth, so the song generates a boatload of fond memories of those halcyon days of being young and growing up.
Most folks of a certain age have always know the song, but it’s fun and interesting to witness a younger generation discover the track by way of the the popular Netflix show, “Stranger Things.”
And now “Running Up That Hill” has conquered the Spotify fitness playlists — an instantly catchy musical boost for exercise enthusiasts everywhere, many of whom are literally attempting to ‘run up a hill’ for physical fitness.
The song has sets 3 chart records and just hit number 1 in the U.K.
The Hounds of Love track boasts the longest-ever gap between No. 1 singles in Official Chart history, with 44 years separating her 1978 career-launching leader “Wuthering Heights” and “Running Up That Hill,” which tops the chart for the week starting June 17.
Kate Bush has become a huge hit with a younger generation, all the while the longtime fans smile proudly as a massive new audience discover what a sensational artist she is, and has been all these years.
Discovering an artist that has slipped through your fingers, be it from last year, or 40 years ago, is an absolute joy. It’s like finding buried treasure.
”How did I miss this?!!” Happens all the time, and I love it. Then you dive in hip deep and revel in all the music. The access music streaming platforms provide helps make so much discovery possible, and slightly easier than flippping through LPs in crates - even though that’s fun, too.
Just a darn good story all around.
Another great week of news! Thanks for reading! Onward and upward.
