Spotify Wrapped 2023 …. is upon us. Keep your eyes peeled and ears ready toward the end of November.
Aside from a few key stories featured right below, it was a relatively quiet week.
Chris Dalla Riva, who writes the Can’t Get Much Higher newsletter, worked up an excellent essay this week about recent changes to Spotify’s royalty system.
Spotify changed how they pay artists. Many people were up in arms. I think their anger is misguided.

When a thrilling moment occurs on the world stage — be it a major sporting event, an unexpected scandal or the release of a much-hyped movie expected to smash box office records — it usually finds its way onto Spotify in the form of music, playlists and podcasts.
When these cultural moments permeate the platform, they can generate long-lasting impact and reach a global audience of over 550 million people who crave deeper engagement. Last year, Spotify carried out research for entertainment marketers that highlighted the potential of a well-planned and executed advertising campaign on the platform, no matter the demographic being targeted.
The audio streaming giant will be using large language models to identify users’ listening patterns in audiobooks and podcasts so it can make targeted suggestions. Spotify was a very early adopter of AI and has offered customers AI-powered suggestions for around a decade.
TikTok has long touted the app as a place to discover new music — and its ability to propel songs into viral hits.
Now TikTok is hoping to derive incremental revenue from music fans who use the app. The company’s new Add to Music App feature lets users save songs from TikTok to third-party music streaming services. Initially, TikTok’s Add to Music App is launching for users in the U.S. and U.K. in partnership with Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music. TikTok said it will roll out the feature in more markets in the coming months.
Designed as an AI solution for artists, managers, and music industry professionals, it will streamline the process of playlist evaluation allowing you to vet any playlist before reaching out.
Leveraging a custom-built artificial intelligence model, our new one-click playlist quality check solution employs a meticulous cross-referencing process between a given playlist and the “Discovered On” playlists showcased on an artist’s profile.

Following filming, the footage is transformed into a stunning video that reflects the artist’s creative vision.
