Happy Friday! We have cooked up an excellent mix of Spotify news this week. So… let’s dive in! 😎
Earlier this week we covered the BIG news about Joe Rogan + Spotify. MBW offers a nice look at the overall deal and why ‘songwriters and record labels should be watching closely.’
The Verge also delivers a solid look at how the Joe Rogan deal makes the company’s big ambitions known.
And yet, there was other Spotify news…. !
★ In the SPOTlight:
→ Spotify Combines Artist, Label Analytics In One Place
The new configuration will allow labels and distributors -- whose previous dashboard was called Spotify Analytics -- to access and help manage artists' profiles on the platform, with a log of actions documenting any edits or changes made to allow multiple parties to work together on one page. Artists and managers will have access to the same set of real-time stats, data and analytics metrics, pitch playlist editors, manage their Canvas; labels and distributors will have access to the Spotify For Artists mobile apps.
→ Spotify Countersues Indie Label, Alleging Massive Streaming Fraud & Millions of Fake Accounts
Spotify has fired back with a countersuit alleging that Noch "designed a scheme to artificially generate hundreds of millions of fraudulent streams" in order to "manipulate Spotify’s system to extract undeserved royalties at the expense of hardworking artists and songwriters."
The filing, which is supported by screenshots of messages allegedly between Noch and a "bot farmer" and charts that show streams on Noch’s music go from zero into the hundreds of thousands in a matter of days, also alleges that Noch directed the bot farmer to create millions of fake accounts and changed the names of songs in his catalog to closely resemble those of established hit songs, like XXXTentacion’s "SAD!" and DJ Snake’s "Taki Taki."

Episode 7 of ‘New Adventures in Spotify’ is a doozy this week: The first 4 begins with the magnificent duo of Clifford Brown and Max Roach, followed by the wonderful Sister Sledge (and one of my all-time faves). Then we flip over to R&B supergroup Lucy Pearl, before wrapping the lead-off tracks with a sweet tune from The Two Man Gentlemen Band.
Then we’re off to the races with Ryan Shaw, The Charlatans, Los Lobos, Bobby Womack, Joe Cocker, Cheap Trick, Marillion, U2, K.D. Lang, Bobby Keys and more!
Have a nice weekend!!!! 😎
